I was honored to be able to take pictures for a wonderful event, the NF Walk. This walk raised an amazing amount of money for research for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Neurofibromatosis is a disease that causes tumors to grow in the nervous system. This disease has no real cure and usually does not respond to the same treatments as cancerous tumors. It was a very inspiring day to see some really awesome kiddos who are beating the odds and fighting this disease. It was also amazing to the ginormous amount of people who came out to support friends and family.
It was a beautiful day for this big event at Veteran’s Park in Hoover. Everyone set up tents, listened to the DJ (who rocked it!), and even made posters to show their support.
Everyone was all smiles. Did I mention that there were SO MANY people who came?
Everybody mingled, chatted, and hung out at the park before the walk began. Many people even brought their dogs to meet and greet. There was cotton candy, facepainting, and even bubbles!
There were some wonderful ladies who did a FABULOUS job with facepainting.
Samford University Cheerleaders came and brought along bulldog Spike. He was a big hit with everyone!
Then it was time to warm up and DANCE. Almost everyone joined in to boogie before the walk. Especially when it was time to “whip and nae-nae”.
Renie Moss, who coordinated the event, gave a beautiful speech that had me in tears. All of the NF heros and champions that were in attendance were honored. We even heard from the superhero doctor who is leading research for NF at UAB.
All the kiddos were invited to participate in the Fun Run. Boy, were they fast!
Then, time for the Walk to begin. Everyone waved at the camera as they headed off.
Everyone finished strong, but it’s hard not to with a line of cheerleaders and even big ol’ Spike the bulldog cheering you on. It was a wonderful day, a wonderful walk, and a wonderful experience!
